Flight Safety, Virgin America Style
Thursday, November 29, 2007 at 1:45PM Each time I settle into my seat in coach -- stowing my carry-on, placing my book and iPod in the seat flap -- my mind immediately goes to the scene in "Fight Club" when the flight safety cards are replaced with illustrations of screaming airline patrons engulfed in flames. It's not that I'm afraid of flying. It's just that all flight safety cards and videos have that same sterile feel, and the variation in "Fight Club" has stuck with me, without even trying.
Virgin America's safety video (created by Anomaly) is a fresh look at a format that was due for an overhaul. Like everything Virgin airlines does for their brand, it's quirky, it's friendly and it further distinguishes the Virgin brand from the beige feel of the rest of the airlines. Advertising may get customers in the door, but smart brands create a unique experience that keeps them coming back.
